Ajax are reportedly interested in a potential move for Barcelona head coach Xavi should he depart the Spanish club as intended after the season.
Xavi declared his departure from Barcelona in January, intending to take a break before resuming management.
Despite his willingness to leave in the summer, club authorities are hopeful of convincing him to remain at the helm.
Ajax want Barcelona's Xavi to take over
However, if they are unable to, Ajax are ready to swoop in and offer a deal to see him take over in the Eredivisie.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Ajax listed Xavi as a potential candidate to take over from current manager John van 't Schip, who was appointed interim boss in October 2023.
The report says that the Amsterdam club values Xavi's experience as a former player and his consideration in handling young talent - he has helped oversee the development of the likes of Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, Alejandro Balde and Pau Cubarsi while at Barcelona.
