Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso will reportedly join Atletico Madrid at the end of the season on a free transfer.
According to Cadena SER, via Fabrizio Romano, the player has a verbal agreement with Atletico and will join as a free agent, with Barcelona unwilling to offer him a new deal.
Alonso to leave Barcelona for Atletico Madrid
Alonso signed an 18-month contract in January 2023, including the option for an extra 12 months if he plays in 50% of matches this season, but a back injury has kept him out of more than half of Barcelona's games this season.
Alonso made 37 appearances last year and was regularly used as a left-back and in a surprise centre-back role, with his versatility earning him an extension to his initial one-year contract.
But with the emergence of Alejandro Balde and loan signing of Joao Cancelo, the only way for Alonso to get any game time is by leaving the club this summer.
