Deschamps defends Mbappe’s disappointing EURO 2024 — 'He has made enough history'
France manager Didier Deschamps has defended his captain Kylian Mbappe against criticism of his Euro 2024 performances.
Mbappe, 25, has scored only once in the tournament - a penalty against Poland - with France reaching the semifinals without scoring from open play.
Deschamps substituted Mbappe in extra time against Portugal, with Mbappe saying he requested to be taken off.
Deschamps defends Mbappe amid criticism
On Telefoot, Deschamps reminded critics of Mbappe's achievements:
"Don't you think he has already made enough history with what he's done so far? He wants to make even more history." Deschamps emphasized the efforts made to ensure Mbappe's participation, despite a back problem during preparation:
"We did everything we could with him, with the medical staff, to get him to be here. Kylian is here."
