In a revealing press conference ahead of France's highly anticipated EURO 2024 quarterfinal clash against Portugal, star forward Kylian Mbappé has shed light on his altered playing style, attributing it to the absence of midfielder Paul Pogba.

Mbappé's comments come as France prepares to face the 2016 European Champions, led by his mentor Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking to the media, the Real Madrid-bound superstar explained;

"Why do I not make runs in behind anymore? It depends on the team," Mbappe stated in a post on Twitter.

When we had Pogba for example, I could just blindly make a run and he would find me. Now I have to adapt to a different situation."

The 25-year-old has been under scrutiny for his performance at the tournament, having scored just one goal - a penalty - in three matches so far.

Paul Pogba was one of the main stars for France six years ago in Russia.

The absence of Pogba, a key figure in France's 2018 World Cup-winning squad, has been keenly felt.

The Juventus midfielder is currently serving a four-year ban for doping after testing positive for the banned substance DHEA in August.
