Benue State Governor Alia gifts Francisca Ordega ₦50 million, 3-bedroom for WAFCON triumph
Benue State celebrated five-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champion Francisca Ordega or her exploits with the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
In a grand dinner hosted by Governor Hyacinth Alia, the state government honored Ordega with several gifts to celebrate her pivotal role in Nigeria’s 2024 WAFCON victory.
Nigeria clinched their 10th title with a 3-2 win over Morocco in the final at Rabat Stadium.

For her accomplishments, the governor gave a cash gift of ₦50 million naira with a fully furnished 3-bedroom house located in the heart of Makurdi, the state capital.
Additionally, a street in Makurdi has been named in her honor with the state awarding ₦10 million naira to the coach who discovered her in Gboko.
The governor revealed this is a statement in his official social media platforms.
He said, "Yesterday, we hosted a special dinner to honour one of Benue State’s most illustrious daughters, Francisca Ordega, OON, a five-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champion and a proud ambassador of Nigeria on the global stage.
"Francisca's journey from the streets of Gboko to international football has inspired countless young people across our state and our nation.
"In recognition of her outstanding achievements, and as a symbol of our deep appreciation, the Benue State Government was pleased to present her with the following: ₦50 million naira in cash, a 3-bedroom house in the heart of Makurdi.
"A street named in her honour, to serve as a lasting legacy, and ₦10 million naira to her coach, the dedicated Gboko coach who first saw her potential and nurtured her talent.
"This recognition affirms our commitment to celebrating excellence, rewarding hard work, and inspiring the next generation of Benue sons and daughters to pursue greatness in their chosen fields.
"Once again, congratulations to Francisca Ordega. Benue State is proud of you."
This follows a national tribute from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the team.
Tinubu honored the Super Falcons with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) award, $100,000 each to the 24 players, and a 3-bedroom apartment in Abuja’s Renewed Hope Estate.
Super Falcons rewards
Ordega is not the first Super Falcons player to be received by her state governor.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma previously honored players such as Chiamaka Nnadozie, Jennifer Echegini, Osinachi Ohale, Oluchi Oluehi, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Michelle Alozie, each receiving ₦10 million for their contributions to the 2024 WAFCON triumph.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa celebrated defender Tosin Demehin with a ₦30 million cash reward and a house at Sunshine Estate, Akure.
