Real Madrid returned to winning ways after derby day disappointment over the weekend, with a 2-0 victory over Las Palmas.
Los Blancos's victory at Santiago Bernabeu failed to return them to first place after Barcelona's draw, however, as Girona beat Villarreal.
How it happened
Real Madrid played their way into a position of dominance, and on a number of occasions, they caught the Las Palmas defence out; however, poor finishing and heroic shot-stopping by Alvaro Valles kept the game goalless.
Joselu on multiple occasions, Rodrygo, and Brahim Diaz were all culprits of the profligacy that plagued Ancelotti’s side early on, but with half-time beckoning, Los Merengues found the go-ahead goal.
Diaz, who had been bright all game, found the opener, his first for Madrid since returning from AC Milan, finishing a Lucas Vazquez assist.
Joselu doubled the advantage in the 54th minute to add some wiggle room to the scoreline. Garcia Pimenta’s men pushed for an equaliser and had Ancelotti’s men on the ropes for a huge chunk of the half, but the 14-time Champions League winners held on to maximum points.
