Atletico Madrid have reportedly pivoted their midfielder search towards the Gulf, specifically Al-Ittihad's N'golo Kante, following the collapse of the move for Conor Gallagher.
Gallagher returns to Chelsea
As Pulse Sports reported, Gallagher has returned to Chelsea from Madrid. The England international midfielder had initially travelled to Spain to complete a €35 million move to the Rojiblancos.
However, the move was part of a two-way deal, with Chelsea having agreed to take Samu Omorodion from Atletico. However, the Blues could not reach an agreement on personal terms with the Spanish striker, which derailed the entire deal.
With a move for Gallagher now unlikely, Atletico have cast their net elsewhere, as they are intent on landing a combative midfielder; Kante’s name has propped up an ideal candidate.
Atletico Madrid in for Kante
Kante was a surprise addition to Didier Deschamps's squad for the European Championships, as he now plays his football in the emerging Saudi Professional League. However, the 33-year-old rose to the occasion and reminded fans of his immense quality.
This has earned him suitors in Europe, with West Ham having made a move for him; however, the deal failed to materialise.
Atleti have now entered the mix, and according to a report from Spanish publication Relevo, they have already communicated their interests to the player's brother, who doubles as his agent.
It is believed that Kante desires a return to the bustle of European football; however, he has a contract until 2026 with Al-Ittihad, and it remains to be seen if the Saudi side will be willing to let him go.
