Aston Villa vs Man United: Rogers' double secures 10th straight win for Emery's Villans
Morgan Rogers scored on opposite sides of a Matheus Cunha goal to help Aston Villa beat Manchester United 2-1 and strengthen their hold on 3rd place.
Rogers opened the scoring in the 45th minute, but Matheus Cunha ensured the Red Devils did not go into the break with a deficit. Rogers hit the back of the net again before the hour mark, this time without a Manchester United response, as the Villans extended their winning run to 10 matches.
Key match details
Before the opener eventually arrived in the 45th minute, both teams had good chances to go in front through their strikers, Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko, respectively.
The first goal of the game came just before halftime, after sustained Villa pressure. Morgan Rogers, in excellent form, collected the ball near the edge of the box, shifted onto his right foot and curled a beautifully placed shot into the top corner beyond the reach of United’s keeper
United responded instantly after the restart. In the 47th minute, a mistake by Villa’s defence allowed Matheus Cunha to find space inside the box; the Brazilian made no mistake, drilling past Emi Martinez to level the scores and give United hope of flipping the contest.

However, Villa regained control and the lead in the 58th minute. Rogers once again was at the heart of the action: he seized on a loose ball in the penalty area after a scramble from a cross and finished crisply to make it 2–1, sparking wild celebrations among the home supporters at Villa Park.
From that point, Villa defended stoutly and managed the game’s tempo to see out the victory. United pressed late for an equaliser but lacked the cutting edge in the final third, as Unai Emery’s boys remained resolute, as they have in their last night matches, which ended in victories.
