Ask Messi — MLS boss sends message to Mohamed Salah

MLS commissioner Don Garber has extended an invitation to Mohamed Salah, urging the Egypt international to consult with Lionel Messi and Thomas Müller about the top-flight league in the USA. 

The aftermath of Salah's controversial rant, in which he suggested that he could leave the club in the January transfer window, has put many clubs and leagues on high alert. 

Like the Saudi Pro League, the MLS are also keen on having Salah in their division. Commissioner Garber recognised the unique opportunity of Salah's fallout with the Liverpool hierarchy and has publicly expressed interest. 

Speaking in a recent interview, the American football administrator said that they would welcome the winger with open arms, citing Messi and Muller, who both recently faced off in the MLS Cup final, as examples.

“Obviously, if [Salah] ever decides to come to Major League Soccer, we’d welcome him with open arms,” he said, per the Daily Mail. 

“I’d say he should reach out to Leo [Messi] and reach out to Thomas Muller and see how happy they’ve been and how successful they’ve been and how much they’ve really embraced being in Major League Soccer.

“I’ve seen some rumours about Mo Salah. We very much believe in the sanctity of a contract; that’s an American business dynamic. Mo’s under contract to Liverpool, people we know. It’s a great team.”

Salah was left out of the squad that beat Inter on Tuesday, after he accused the club of throwing him under the bus and said he no longer had a relationship with Arne Slot. 

He is expected to remain out of the squad when Liverpool face Brighton, before he travels with the Egypt squad to Morocco for the AFCON. It remains to be seen whether he will return to Liverpool after the tournament, with the January transfer window approaching.
