Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has gone to bat for his struggling shot-stopper David Raya after the Spanish international’s error-ridden performance against Luton.
The 26-year-old moved to the Emirates this summer and has been under the microscope since inception, as his signing saw him displace England international Aaron Ramsdale, who did an adequate job in the role last season.
What Arteta said
The Basque tactician has had to answer many questions about his goalkeepers this season, given his cutthroat decision to replace Ramsdale as the club’s number one with a new signing, Raya.
Arteta has fresh fires to put out these past days after Raya’s abysmal showing at Kenworth Road, which saw him ship in three goals between the sticks against newly promoted Luton. However, the Spanish coach defended his first-choice stopper, saying he had been satisfied with performances.
“If you look at his form and what he has achieved since he’s been with us, it’s impressive. I have three great goalkeepers and I’m really happy,” Arteta said, per Fabrizio Romano.
Gazzetta dello Sport has reported AC Milan's strong interest in Kiwior, making him a 'priority' for the upcoming transfer window.
Arteta is said to be willing to allow Kiwior to leave if he wishes to join the Serie A giants.
