Arsenal legend Ian Wright has reacted to his club’s disappointing collapse in the Premier League title race by seemingly calling out Gabriel Jesus.
Wright said that Arsenal need a new striker as they lacked the squad to challenge Manchester City till the end.
The comment came after the Gunners suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest to end the Premier League race once and for all.
Arsenal need a new striker
Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi came up clutch again for his Nottingham Forest side in the decisive game as he helped the Reds secure their Premier League status for another season.
Awoniyi netted the all-important winner to inspire Nottingham to safety and end Arsenal’s dream for good at the City Ground.
The Gunners dominated the encounter but struggled to break down their determined hosts who defended stoutly.
In the end, despite having 82% possession, Mikel Arteta’s men only managed three shots on target with Brazilian striker Jesus anonymous.
Moments after the game, a visibly disappointed Wright noted that his former club did not have the squad to go all the way and will need a different striker to challenge.
"I think what its shown in the last four or five games is how hard it is to chase down Man City,” Wright said as a Premier League pundit.
“But you do need the squad to be able to do it. Today you saw. Arsenal needed something different, perhaps a focal number nine."
