Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury set for mega Netflix showdown
Netflix sets its sights on Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury and Canelo Alvarez super fights.
This is a part of a follow-up following the success of Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson on the same platform.
In November, the streaming service entered the boxing arena for the first time by securing the rights to broadcast the contentious crossover fight.
The event turned out to be a wildly successful commercial venture, even though the action in the ring was greatly disappointing.
An astonishing 60 million households logged onto Netflix to see Paul defeat Tyson by unanimous decision.
According to sources, 50 million watched the co-main event featuring Katie Taylor against Amanda Serrano.
The event, held at Arlington, Texas's AT&T Stadium, also broke the record for the largest boxing gate in the US outside of Las Vegas.
The gate revenue for Paul vs Tyson exceeded $18 million, which is twice the amount of Canelo Alvarez's $9 million earnings from his 2021 grudge match against Billy Joe Saunders at the same venue.
Netflix are now looking to make another big move in sports, having recently secured the rights for the July 11 trilogy between Taylor and Serrano.
Additionally, they are aiming for the matchups of Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury and Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford.
It was reported that Turki Alalshikh, the head of Saudi boxing, was working on a massive two-fight agreement for a showdown with AJ.
Fury has retired in the past but quickly reversed his decision three times.
