Another Barcelona player suffers injury, in doubt for Supercopa de Espana
Barcelona have had another player in their defensive rank suffer an injury, as first-choice right-back Jules Kounde was substituted off in the 2–0 win against Villarreal.
Hansi Flick's side maintained their four-point margin at the top of the league table with the victory against the Yellow Submarines. However, the celebrations were dampened by the injury to Kounde.
What happened
The France international lasted until the 79th minute of the game before he was replaced by Marc Casado after he sustained an injury.
According to Football Espana, initial assessments suggest that the injury will keep him out for multiple weeks, which will effectively rule him out for the Supercopa de España in January.
The report stated that Kounde hurt his hamstring. His exact duration on the sidelines has yet to be confirmed. The club will expectedly make an official announcement after proper tests have been done.
Meanwhile, Kounde’s injury further depletes an already stressed Barcelona backline. Earlier today, Pulse Sports reported that Andreas Christensen injured his ACL during training.
Hence, as it stands, the Blaugrana have only four recognised first-team defenders. Only two of those four are naturally centre-backs, Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia (who has been preferred in midfield lately); the other two are left-backs: Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martin (who has had shifts at centre-back).
