An emotional farewell — Carragher speculates Mo Salah's Liverpool exit window
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that the club will not let Mohamed Salah leave in the January transfer window; however, he expects that the Egyptian will leave at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old is currently at the AFCON with the Egypt national team. Before leaving for Morocco, he had an explosive post-match interview, in which he said that his relationship with Arne Slot was non-existent and hinted at a possible exit in the January transfer window.
What Carragher said
The Liverpool record appearance maker heavily criticised Salah after his rant, accusing the former Roma forward of being selfish. However, in his latest comment on the issue, which he penned in his column for the Telegraph, he hailed Salah for being a club legend and said that he expected him to stay until the end of the season to get the send-off he deserved.
"Will Mohamed Salah still be at Liverpool on February 1, 2026 or September 1, 2026? Yes, and no,” he said, per Goal. "Given Liverpool’s injury situation following Alexander Isak’s broken leg, the club cannot afford to allow Salah to leave in the January transfer window.
"After the bust-up earlier this season, the Africa Cup of Nations has come at a good time for everyone to take a breath. The next few months could turn into a long goodbye for Salah, however.
"The current Liverpool era will be forever synonymous with Salah. He is one of the all-time greats of Liverpool and the Premier League, so an emotional farewell at the final game of this season would be the perfect, choreographed send-off."
