There has been an understanding that PIF-backed Saudi clubs are not only interested in superstars at the twilight of their careers but, like their European counterparts, are also on the lookout for the best young talents.
This transfer report confirms those suggestions, as Al-Ittihad are said to have sent in a formal bid to Barcelona for one of their prized jewels in their youth set-up.

The details
The player in question is Unai Hernandez, the captain of Barca Athletic. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Saudi Pro League leaders have sent in an official bid to the Blaugrana for the 20-year-old’s signature.
Former Barcelona sporting director Ramon Planes, who now holds a similar position for Al-Ittihad, is said to be pushing for the deal. Contact was initiated during the Supercopa de Espana in Saudi, and after weeks of talks, a formal offer was tabled.
Hernandez is one of the jewels of La Masia, and he is the current captain of the Barcelona subsidiary. However, he is reportedly frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities; hence, he is open to a proposal from Saudi.
The transfer could help facilitate Barcelona's move for Marcus Rashford, as despite being back in the green with respect to financial fair play, they still need an influx of around €6 million to finance the move for the England international.
