Aina and Awonyi lose coach as Nottingham Forest Sack Nuno Espírito Santo
Premier League giants Nottingham Forest Football Club have announced that they have relieved head coach Nuno Espírito Santo of his duties.
Nottingham Forest Sack Nuno Espírito Santo
The decision was confirmed via an official statement on the club's official social media platforms.
The statement said, "Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as Head Coach.
"The Club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at The City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club.
"As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey."
Under Nuno’s guidance, Nottingham Forest achieved a 7th-place finish in the 2024/25 Premier League season and secured Europa League qualification.
Nuno earlier said that he is not on the best of terms with the owner, Evangelos Marinakis, when he openly criticised the club’s transfer strategy.
The decision stems from reported strategic disagreements, with Nuno’s push for a more balanced squad clashing with Marinakis’s ambitions and the influence of sporting director Edu.
The dismissal means Super Eagles of Nigeria stars Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi have lost their coach.
Both players, integral to Forest’s recent success, now face uncertainty as they thrived under Nuno’s tactical setup.
This change comes ahead of the club’s next Premier League clash against Arsenal after the international break.
