AFCON 2025: ‘The fans don't shake us’ - Onyeka reveals how Super Eagles advance to the last 16
Frank Onyeka has insisted that intimidating atmospheres do not trouble the Super Eagles, following Nigeria’s dramatic 3–2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday night in Fez.
The win confirmed Nigeria’s place in the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and extended their perfect record in Group C, with six points from two matches.
What Onyeka said
Speaking after the match, the midfielder played down the impact of the vocal Tunisian supporters, stressing that Nigeria remained focused on executing their game plan.
He said, “No, the fans don’t shake us. It’s always the same. Every time I come into the team, I want to give what I can to help the team offensively and defensively. Nothing changed from the last time.”
According to Onyeka, Nigeria’s success came from its intensity and tactical discipline rather than external factors.
The 27-year-old also revealed that memories of Nigeria’s shock elimination by Tunisia at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon provided extra motivation.
“Yes, we wanted to give back for what happened in Cameroon, so we had to come out really strong. We are happy that we got the three points,” he explained.
Making his first start of the tournament, Onyeka delivered a commanding midfield display.
He recorded 46 touches, completed 93% of his passes, made four interceptions and won a tackle.
