Uganda Cranes forward Ivan Ahimbisibwe has voiced confidence ahead of his side’s decisive Group C encounter with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
While Nigeria’s Super Eagles have already booked their place in the round of 16 after winning their first two matches, Uganda faces a must-win situation to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive.
Despite the daunting task of facing the three-time African champions, Ahimbisibwe insists the Cranes are mentally prepared and capable of producing a strong performance.
“We Believe in Ourselves” – Ahimbisibwe
Speaking ahead of the match, Ahimbisibwe emphasised the team’s positive mindset and determination to bounce back.
“We are going back to the drawing board. We expect to have a good game against Nigeria,” he said.
He continued, “We believe in ourselves and will come with a good mentality and try to win.”
Uganda currently sits at the bottom of Group C with one point and needs all three points to stand any chance of advancing, potentially as one of the best third-placed teams.
Ahimbisibwe has yet to feature for the Cranes in this year’s tournament but made it clear he is ready to contribute if given the opportunity.
“We have to always wait for our time,” he explained.
“It is always a game, and we have so many good and quality players. Everyone who gets a chance surely deserves to play, so we shall wait for our time,” he added.
