The defeat proved especially emotional for Cameroonian icon and FA president Samuel Eto’o, who struggled to hold back tears while addressing the players after the final whistle.

Eto’o’s emotional message to Cameroon stars

Following the 2–0 loss in Rabat, Eto’o delivered a heartfelt speech in the dressing room, urging the squad to remain proud despite the disappointment.

Clearly affected by the mood around him, the African football legend said: “Seeing you sad makes me teary but I'll make an effort not to cry. I want to tell you to be proud of yourselves for what you did during this competition. Be proud!”

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker, an AFCON winner as a player, has been a constant presence around the team throughout the tournament.

Cameroon showed resilience, particularly in the second half, but were ultimately undone by a lack of cutting edge in front of goal, with substitute Georges-Kevin Nkoudou missing their clearest chance from close range.

Morocco outclass Indomitable Lions to reach semi-finals

Morocco continued their impressive AFCON 2025 campaign with a composed and clinical performance at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The Atlas Lions dominated the early stages and were rewarded in the 26th minute when Brahim Díaz reacted quickest to turn home an Ayoub El Kaabi header, registering his fifth goal of the tournament.

Cameroon improved after the break but failed to capitalise on their chances, and Morocco sealed the win in the 74th minute. Ismael Saibari showed great composure to control Abde Ezzalzouli’s cross before firing a left-footed strike into the far corner.

The victory sends Morocco into the semi-finals, where they will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday, January 14.
