The win marked Gauff’s fourth consecutive triumph over Swiatek, all achieved in straight sets, making the American the first player in history to record such a dominant streak against the Polish star.

Gauff’s surge has narrowed the head-to-head gap significantly. After losing 11 of her first 12 meetings with Swiatek, the 20-year-old has now improved her record to 5-11, signalling a major change in momentum over the past 18 months.

The semifinal clash began with early pressure on Gauff, who was forced to save four break points in a tense opening game. Once she settled, the world No. 3 took control, racing to a 4-1 lead.

Swiatek responded strongly, clawing her way back to level the set at 4-4, but Gauff quickly reasserted her authority.

From that point, the Americans went on a decisive run, winning seven straight games to surge ahead 6-4, 5-0.

What Gauff said

Although Swiatek briefly halted the momentum by breaking serve and holding to make it 5-2 in the second set, Gauff immediately broke back to close out the match in emphatic fashion.

“I didn’t let the opportunities that I had the first two times I had match point get away from me,” Gauff said after the match.

She added, “She played well, but I knew how I was playing the whole match that I would get it done.”

Gauff’s victory kept Team USA in contention in the semifinal tie after Hubert Hurkacz earlier defeated Taylor Fritz 7-6 (1), 7-6 (2).

However, Poland ultimately sealed their place in the final when Jan Zielinski and Katarzyna Kawa edged past Gauff and Christian Harrison 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) in the decisive mixed doubles match.

With the win, Team Poland advanced to their third consecutive United Cup final, where they will face Team Switzerland in the 2026 title showdown.
