The 29-year-old forward was in action for New York/New Jersey outfit Gotham FC, which suffered a 2-1 loss to the San Diego Wave on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

Onumonu played an in-and-out role for the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the recently concluded 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Onumonu started on the left side of the attack in the opening game against Olympic champions Canada.
She was leading the line in the second group game against Australia

She then came off the bench for the final group game against the Republic of Ireland but returned to the starting lineup as the Super Falcons lost on penalties to the Lionesses of England in the round of 16.
Onumonu bags assist for Gotham
Onumonu did not return to Nigeria with a certain section of the Super Falcons.

Onumonu returned to the United States of America (USA) after the Super Falcons World Cup exit.
In an NWSL fixture, Onumonu started the game against the San Diego Wave on the bench.
Gotham FC were down two goals, and Onumonu was introduced for Delanie Sheehan in the 90th minute.
In the 12th minute of additional time, Onumonu provided the assist for Katherine Stengel, but it was too late as the San Diego Wave held on for the win.
It was the first match for Onumonu since her participation at the World Cup.
Onumonu and Gotham FC return to action when they take on Uchenna Kanu's Racing Louisville in their next NWSL fixture scheduled for Sunday, August 27, 2023.
