The imprisoned former Barcelona defender could see his hopes of securing his release take a major following the latest statement from his victim's cousin.

Dani Alves remains has spent over 100 days in temporary detention at the Brians 2 prison while he awaits trial for the alleged rape of a 23-year-old woman at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona last December.

The 40-year-old footballer accused of sexual assault has been working on securing his release on bail, courtesy of his legal team headed by Cristobal Martel.

However, Alves has so far seen all his appeals rejected by the judge of the Barcelona court, while more details continue to emerge over the incident that got him behind bars earlier this year.

The victim’s cousin, who was present with her at the scene of the alleged crime has now opened up on some details surrounding his relative’s alleged plight.

A report from Dario AS, revealed that last April he already acknowledged that he spoke with his cousin "just when Dani Alves had already gone to the bathroom" and debated "about whether he should go or not".

The cousin of the complainant has now offered new details about the subsequent moments and about the attitude of Alves’ friend, Bruno Brasil, who was also at the Sutton nightclub that morning.

"They were dancing. She told me that she was insisting on him to leave, that she said where and that he didn't answer. My cousin went voluntarily (to the bathroom of the reserved)," he was quoted to have said as per Dario AS.

The victim’s cousin further added that his cousin did not know the true intentions of the footballer.

He said:

"She thought they were going to talk and I told her: 'Go and settle the matter'.

I waved my hand at him. 15 or 20 minutes passed. Dani came back first. She had a bad face."

Dani Alves could now be facing a fresh blow in his bid to secure a release from prison, even as the former Pumas and Juventus defender insists that even though he had intercourse with the victim, it was consensual.

Alves was taken into custody after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old lady in a Sutton nightclub in Barcelona.

The former Barcelona and PSG defender was arrested after the allegation was made against him on December 30, 2022.

He was then taken to the Ciutat de la Justicia, where he attended a court hearing.

He was sent to jail by the court without bail, while an investigation continues on the case.

Should Alves be found guilty of the rape charges, the former Pumas defender could face a sentence of between eight to 10 years in prison.
