The Brazilian defender has once again seen his plea for a temporary release denied by the presiding judge of the Barcelona Court.

In a fresh development in the Dani Alves rape case, the Brazilian defender is now set to extend his stay in prison.

Alves who is currently charged with rape was arrested on December 30, after being accused of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old lady at a Sutton nightclub in Barcelona.

The 40-year-old former FC Barcelona defender has seen his life take a tight turn even as his lawyer Cristobal Martell seeks his temporary release on bail.

However, Dario AS reports that the presiding judge has decided to keep him in jail after the last appeal presented by his legal team to remove him pending the trial against him.

Alves was arrested in an taken to prison on January 20, over 100 days ago, and since then, his defense has tried to get him out on several occasions, via series.

The former Pumas star, led by his legal team, has also changed his statement not less than four times since his arrest.

Alves argues that he indeed had sex with his accuser, but that these were consensual, a claim that he initially did not reveal because he was worried about the effect it would have on his marriage to his estranged wife Joana Sanz.

Pulse Sports previously reported that Joana Sanz is actively seeking to divorce the former Juventus and PSG defender amid the rape case.

Alves’ appeal to be released on bail continues to be opposed by the Prosecutor's Office who have expressed concern over the player’s high risk of flight due to his economic muscle.

AS reports that the third section of the Barcelona Court has accepted the appeal filed by Alves' lawyer last week, requesting the presence of a doctor on his part in the forensic examinations of the 23-year-old victim.

However, both the prosecutor and the victim's lawyer are opposed to this measure.
