The Tribal chief is both who he says he is and who WWE wants him to be.

Roman Reigns who is the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion has been named pro wrestling’s biggest draw for 2022.

This is the fifth time since 2016 that the Tribal Chief has worn the crown according to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The only other wrestling stars to win the award during that span are New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Kazuchika Okada and WWE’s Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman, who shared the honor with Reigns in 2017.

Reigns who has held the Universal title for nearly 900 days in what has become the longest world title reign of WWE’s modern era, has won the award as the top attraction inside the squared circle.

While Reigns has already established himself as the need-to-see star in pro wrestling courtesy of his as the leader of The Bloodline, the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer says that Reigns isn’t quite on the same level as the man he’s often compared to as the face of WWE - his predecessor and WWE legend John Cena.

WWE: Research shows John Cena edges Roman Reigns in ‘drawing power’ game

While there are a variety of factors to be considered as fundamental within wrestling, and regardless of in-ring work or showmanship, the leading metric considered for success in wrestling has always been drawing power.

As per Forbes, In 2017, wrestling statistician Brandon Thurston conducted a detailed analysis (h/t Fightful) of Reigns’ drawing power versus that of Cena, and it was clear then that “The Champ” was a bigger needle mover than Reigns despite the massive push of the latter as WWE’s desired heir apparent to the throne.

Although since then, a lot has changed in regards to Reigns, Cena and the way WWE pushes its superstars.

Cena is a far bigger name outside of the world of pro wrestling, due to his Hollywood exploits and this was evident after his recent SmackDown return.

He is one of the few stars who truly draws during an era in which it is the WWE brand that draws more so than any particular star.

Regardless, what Reigns has achieved over the past few years is still very much impressive.

Reigns has developed into the type of superstar that even pro-wrestling has largely failed to create during that span, and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON) has ranked him as the 12th biggest draw in pro wrestling history.

Royal Rumble gears up for Roman Reigns vs Kevin Owen

Roman Reigns vs Kevin Owen will be the main event at WWE Royal Rumble 2023

Roman Reigns is expected to returns to pay-per-view action against an old foe Kevin Owens.

Owens has again found himself at odds with The Head of the Table and The Bloodline.

KO recently teamed with “The Greatest of All Time” John Cena to hand Reigns and Sami Zayn a tag team loss on the final SmackDown of 2022.

Still very much pissed off over the defeat, the tribal chief and Undisputed WWE Universal Champion accepted Owens’ challenge for a title matchup at Royal Rumble.
