Max Verstappen is closing in a third consecutive F1 world championship title after his victory at the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen once again found his dominant form by claiming victory at the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix.

The 25-year-old Dutchman began on pole and once again showed fans why he is the reigning world champion  with an emphatic result that was enough to crown Red Bull Racing the winners of the constructors' championship for a second year in a row.

McLaren also enjoyed one of its best races in recent years with both of their drivers rounding out the top three - Lando Norris finished in P2 while Oscar Piastri claimed his first-ever F1 podium at Suzuka.

Mercedes and Ferrari took part in an engaging battle, occupying the four places between P4 and P7.

Lewis Hamilton finished in P5 behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in P4 and ahead of the latter’s teammate Carlos Sainz who finished in P6.

George Russell secured P7 ahead of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso who finished in P8.

The Top 10 is completed by Alpine drivers Esteban Ocon who finished in P9 ahead of his teammate Pierre Gasly.

Elsewhere on the grid, AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson could not build on their strong qualifying performances, falling short of the point-scoring positions.

Red Bull have claimed the 2023 Constructors' Championship with a dominant drive from Max Verstappen in the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka on Sunday, September 24.

While Sergio Perez retired after a chaotic opening to the Grand Prix, Max Verstappen secured an emphatic finish from pole position - also getting the fastest lap for a haul of 26 points.

However, Verstappen did not secure the Drivers' world championship crown despite his victory in Suzuka.

"Unbelievable weekend. To win here was great," Verstappen said as per Sky Sports.

"The most important thing was to win the constructors. Very proud for everyone working at the track and at the factory. We are having an incredible year."

The Red Bull driver and defending world champion is 177 points ahead of his teammate Perez in the standings - with 180 on the board heading to the Qatar Grand Prix Sprint weekend.
