Lewis Hamilton’s dream of an eighth world title is hanging by a thread as the Ferrari newcomer faces brutal comparisons to teammate Charles Leclerc.
Lewis Hamilton may be a seven-time world champion, but his road to an historic eighth title has never looked steeper.
The 40-year-old British F1 icon, now donning the iconic red of Ferrari, has received a stark wake-up call just five races into his much-hyped stint with the Scuderia.
Despite winning a Sprint Race in Shanghai, Hamilton’s performances at this year's Grand Prix events have been nothing short of underwhelming.
)
His best result remains a fifth-place finish in Bahrain, and he currently languishes in seventh place in the 2025 Drivers' Championship.
Even more worrying for fans is the fact that Charles Leclerc, his Ferrari teammate, has consistently outqualified and outraced him, already building a 16-point lead.
)
And former F1 driver Johnny Herbert didn’t mince his words in a recent interview with AceOdds via The Express.
“Yes, I think 2026 is Lewis Hamilton's final chance at getting the eighth championship,” he said.
“He's 40 now. Is he still great? Yes. But his prime has passed. Charles Leclerc is better than Hamilton at the moment.”

Hamilton himself has acknowledged the difficulties he's facing.
Ahead of this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, he drew parallels between his current Ferrari experience and his early struggles after joining Mercedes back in 2012.
“The engineers I work with now are used to setting up the car for a different driver… and I’m adjusting to a completely different driving style,” he was quoted to have said as per Formula Rapida.
)
The former Mercedes driver admitted he has “no clue what to expect in Miami,” but remains determined: “We are working as hard as we can to shorten the transition — but it could be longer, who knows?”
With new FIA regulations set to shake up the sport in 2026, Hamilton’s window to secure a record-breaking eighth world title may be closing fast.
Whether he can adapt quickly enough and overtake Leclerc as Ferrari’s leading man, remains the biggest question in Formula One today.
