Lando Norris turned pole to victory on Sunday securing his seventh career victory.
Lando Norris secured a thrilling victory at the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, edging out McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri in a race-long battle that had the F1 world on the edge of its seat.
But while Norris celebrated a career-defining win, Max Verstappen’s title hopes took a massive hit after a chaotic incident with Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli.
With the Dutchman eliminated early in the race, his dreams of yet another championship may have been derailed.

F1 Austrian GP: ‘Resurgent’ Lando Norris takes pole by half-a-second in qualifying
The McLaren driver secured his third pole of the season with a dominant display.
A chaotic start and Sainz’s misfortune
The race was off to a wild start before the lights even went out.
The Red Bull Ring saw a flurry of action as Carlos Sainz faced mechanical issues on the grid, unable to engage first gear in his Ferrari.
As marshals scrambled to push the car away, the rest of the field was held under yellow flags, forcing a delayed start.
As Sainz finally managed to get going, he was struck by more misfortune when his car suffered a fire at the rear, resulting in an immediate retirement.
A 10-minute delay followed, reducing the race distance to 70 laps.
The fresh formation lap was completed without issue, and when the race finally got underway, it was McLaren's Lando Norris who made a clean getaway, fending off Ferrari's Charles Leclerc while teammate Piastri quickly challenged for the lead.
However, disaster struck for Max Verstappen just moments later.
Verstappen’s furious exit
)
The high hopes for a Verstappen victory were dashed early in the race when Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli collided with the reigning champion, sending both drivers crashing out.
As the pair came together at high speed, the Red Bull Racing driver’s race was abruptly ended.
Verstappen, understandably furious, was seen debriefing with the young Mercedes driver post-crash.
Verstappen labelled the 18-year-old a f***ing idiot' on his radio after telling his team as per Daily Mail: 'I'm out. I got hit like crazy.'
'Sorry about that, I locked the rear,' Antonelli told his team before he was seen apologising to Verstappen, who appeared to have calmed down and accepted it.
The stewards confirmed an investigation would be launched into the incident.
While both drivers were unharmed, Verstappen’s exit from the race has potentially cost him valuable points in his bid for the championship.

With the Safety Car deployed and the grid reshuffled, Norris and Piastri resumed their intense battle for the lead.
Despite some minor slip-ups, Norris held on to the position, fending off his teammate’s relentless attacks lap after lap.
The two McLarens demonstrated remarkable teamwork, with Piastri often using Norris’ DRS to keep up with the pace and take some bold but safe moves in their bid for victory.
Final Classification: McLaren’s masterclass
While Norris may have taken the glory, the day undoubtedly belonged to McLaren, who demonstrated exceptional racecraft and strategy.
For Verstappen, the result was a bitter pill to swallow, as the Dutchman’s title defence now faces an uphill battle after the disastrous incident.
In contrast, Norris’s victory injects fresh hope into his own championship aspirations, as he continues to push for a maiden title.
