Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi played down the suggestions that he had already accepted to join Arsenal.
Contrary to reports that Martin Zubimendi has agreed to join Premier League giants Arsenal, the Basque midfielder suggested in a recent interview that his future was undecided, as he had a ‘long summer’ ahead.
The 26-year-old had previously rejected approaches from Arsenal, Barcelona and Liverpool. However, with the slew of top-level exits at La Reale, it was believed Zubimendi could finally be ready to leave his boyhood club.

5 Reasons Why Martin Zubimendi’s Move to Arsenal Has Taken Longer Than Expected to Finalise
Martin Zubimendi's move to Arsenal has been on the cards for over four months now. Here are 5 reasons it has taken ages to be finalised.
Arsenal’s agreement
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano broke the news a few weeks ago that the Gunners were confident that they would finally get their man after reaching a verbal agreement.
Reports from multiple sources claimed that Zubimendi only had to complete his medical, and the Gunners would trigger his €60 million release clause. Some sources even claimed he had done the medical.
What Zubimendi said
In an interview with Radiogaceta de los Deportes, the midfielder opened himself to the possibility of remaining at San Sebastian. He played down the suggestions that his future had been decided, saying that he was only focused on the national team at the moment.

“Of course there are options, but it's true that it seems like it's going to be a different, long summer, and I don't know how it will end,” Zubimendi said.
“I don't think thinking about that right now is my priority. I'm here with the national team, which I think is already quite demanding, and if I have to say something, then I will."
Addressing the reports that he had undergone medicals at Arsenal, he said, "It's an example of what surrounds football. Many times I wake up in the morning and read things that I didn't know I had done. That was a clear example.”
“ It's true that I don't take it very seriously, but anyway, I uploaded those photos to emphasise a little that it wasn't exactly the reality that was happening.”
Meanwhile, there are suggestions that Zubimendi is stalling because he is waiting for Real Madrid. His idol Xabi Alonso recently became Los Blancos’s head coach, and there are reports that the Basque legend is interested in bringing Martin to the Bernabeu.
