Arsenal's hopes for a first summer signing have taken a huge blow as Martin Zubimendi's doubts over a move resurfaces
Martin Zubimendi seemed destined to become Arsenal’s next midfield signing, but just as the final steps of the transfer were being set in motion, a new twist has caused the move to stall.
The reason for the delay is a phone call that hasn’t come yet, but could change everything for both Zubimendi and Arsenal.

However, behind the scenes, Zubimendi is still glancing away from the Gunners, holding out hope for a call from the Santiago Bernabéu.
According to COPE, the Spanish midfielder is delaying his Arsenal switch in case Real Madrid, and more importantly, new boss Xabi Alonso, decide to make a late move.
With Alonso handed the keys to rebuild Real Madrid this summer, the Bilbao native could hold huge sway over one of his former clubs’ stars, as he is also a legend in Real Sociedad’s books.
Real Madrid hoping to wrap up another signing
Defender Dean Huijsen is already through the door, and Madrid are wrapping up deals for Álvaro Carreras and possibly even Trent Alexander-Arnold,.But Zubimendi could be the most important signing for Alonso.

Zubimendi’s recent campaign with Real Sociedad, where in 36 games, he scored two goals, provided one assist, and averaged nearly ten defensive actions per match, is just part of the reason why two of Europe’s biggest clubs are desperate for his signature.
Now, the ball is in Madrid’s court. Arsenal have done their part, the player is interested, but the delay continues, all for a club that is yet to make a formal approach.
