Reports of a move to Al Nassr emerged recently, but Boniface may not leave the Bundesliga this month.

Victor Boniface could still stay at Bayer Leverkusen this month despite reports suggesting he is on his way to the Saudi Pro League.

The Leverkusen striker did not train with the German outfit due to a reported €60m move to Al Nassr, with the striker said to have agreed to a salary of €15m per season.

Moving to the Saudi club will end the Nigerian’s time in Europe, where he was pivotal to Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten side clinching a historic Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season for the first time in the club’s history.

Boniface, 25, scored 21 goals and 10 assists in 34 games last term as Leverkusen claimed the league and cup double.

However, he has struggled with injuries this season, with a hamstring injury sustained in November limiting him to only 15 appearances this term, even if he has scored eight goals.

While Al Nassr have a verbal agreement in place with the Nigeria international, a deal is not yet complete.

Why Boniface’s Al Nassr transfer could still break down

According to several sources, including Fabrizio Romano and the Athletic, Al Nassr are looking to strengthen their attack and have narrowed their search down to two strikers: Boniface and Jhon Duran of Aston Villa.

Both sources state that the Saudi outfit will make a decision on Wednesday on which player to pursue further, suggesting that Boniface’s move is far from guaranteed.

Coached by Stefano Pioli, Al Nassr currently sit fourth in the Saudi Pro League. Their star-studded squad features renowned names such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo Brozovic, Sadio Mane and Aymeric Laporte.
