Real Madrid have reportedly reinitiated contact for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.

Real Madrid have rekindled their interest in Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konaté ahead of the summer 2026 transfer window, with club officials reportedly re-establishing contact with his representatives about a possible move once his current contract at Liverpool expires.

The French defender has long been on Madrid’s radar as they look to reinforce their defence in light of the likely summer departures of David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger, who are out of contract.

 Konaté’s situation

The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his Liverpool deal and has yet to agree to an extension, making him an attractive potential free agent target for Los Blancos, mirroring how Real Madrid previously signed Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer.

Los Blancos' interest was concrete, and they even contemplated paying to bring him in six months earlier, in the January transfer window. However, in November 2025, Madrid informed Liverpool they were not pursuing Konaté at that time, a decision attributed to concerns over his dip in form.

However, according to Radio Marca, Real Madrid have reinitiated contact with his camp, which indicates the stance has shifted again, with the club keen to secure options for the 2026 summer window.

Meanwhile, Barcelona may have to navigate the 2026 summer transfer window without current sporting director Deco, as presidential candidate Victor Font stated that he will replace the Portuguese football legend should he be elected.
