Fofana could miss most of what is left of this season, while Badiashile is sidelined until at least February.

This has left Chelsea with limited options in central defence, prompting them to explore the possibility of recalling Chalobah, as per The Athletic.

The 25-year-old has impressed during his loan spell at Palace, making 14 appearances and scoring three goals.

He has formed a solid partnership with Marc Guehi and Maxence Lacroix in manager Oliver Glasner's back three.

Chelsea's defensive woes were highlighted in their recent 1-1 draw with Palace, where 18-year-old Josh Acheampong was handed his first Premier League start alongside Levi Colwill.

Despite impressing on his debut, Acheampong's selection underscored the lack of experienced options available to manager Enzo Maresca.

Recalling Chalobah is just one of the options the Blues are considering to address their defensive shortages.

The club have already recalled Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell at Boca Juniors, and could also look to the transfer market for reinforcements.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Guehi is among the options being considered, although a deal would be complex due to Palace's likely reluctance to sell.

However, the England international has 18 months left on his contract, possibly pressuring the Eagles to cash in during the ongoing window.

What next for Chelsea?

Chelsea are back in action on Saturday when they host Morecambe in the FA Cup third round at Stamford Bridge.
