Taiwo Awoniyi: Out-of-favour Super Eagles star set for Nottingham Forest exit

Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is reportedly on his way to the Bundesliga ahead of the transfer deadline.

Awoniyi has struggled to secure a regular starting spot at Nottingham Forest, where Chris Wood is the first-choice striker for manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Nigerian striker arrived as the club's main forward but saw his game time diminish due to injuries and loss of form.

The arrivals of Igor Jesus and Arnaud Kalimuendo as attacking additions to bolster the team’s Europa League campaign have made it even harder for Awoniyi to return to favour, resulting in zero minutes this season.

The 27-year-old is unlikely to get game time this season, and a move away from the City Ground will be best for all parties involved.

Awoniyi back to Bundesliga?

According to reports from Nottingham Forest News, Awoniyi has now emerged as a potential target for Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.

The Nigerian is no stranger to Bundesliga football, having performed brilliantly while on loan at Union Berlin, scoring 20 goals from 43 appearances in the German top-flight.

Forest have started the season in fine form, taking four points from their opening two games, and take on a poor West Ham side this weekend. However, Awoniyi is not expected to feature and could very well become a Bremen player at the transfer deadline.

Should he reignite his career in the Bundesliga, a return to the Super Eagles reckoning will not be far off.
