Barcelona ran riot against Real Madrid to become the new Spanish Super Cup champions.

Despite a red card in the second-half, a dominant first-half performance in which they scored four goals helped Barcelona thrash Real Madrid 5-2 and win the Spanish Super Cup.

Both teams eased past their opponents in the semi-final. Barcelona beat Athletic Club, while Real Madrid saw off Mallorca. Los Blancos came into the clash as slight favourites and scored an early goal which signalled a successful defense of their Super Cup title.

However, Barcelona rallied themselves and when on a devastating run of goalscoring, putting five past Carlo Ancelotti's men, before the LALIGA champions pulled one back after Wojciech Szczęsny had been sent off for Barca.

Key match details

Real Madrid's promising start was short-lived, as Kylian Mbappe's fifth-minute opener proved to be a false dawn. The French sensation's clinical opener was doused by Barcelona's fight back.

Lamine Yamal sparked the turnaround with a stunning equaliser, cutting inside and unleashing a precise left-footed shot that left Thibaut Courtois helpless.

Flick's men piled on eventually took the lead when Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty after Eduardo Camavinga's reckless challenge on Gavi.

Raphinha then doubled the advantage with a powerful header from Jules Koundé's cross from deep.

Alejandro Balde rubbed salt into Real Madrid's wounds with a slick finish on the stroke of halftime, finishing off a sweeping team move to help the Blaugrana end the half on a high.

Real Madrid were expected to return from the break with renewed verve, but Barcelona ensured they never got going, as Raphinha exploited the space behind their defense to score his second goal and Barcelona’s fifth.

However, a dramatic twist ensued when Wojciech Szczesny's rash challenge on Mbappe earned him a red card. Rodrygo capitalised on the resulting free kick to give Real Madrid a glimmer of hope, but it was too little, too late.

In the end, Barcelona cruised to a resounding victory, securing their first silverware of the season.
