Kylian Mbappe could miss a potential El Clasico in Saudi Arabia through injury.
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has suffered a knee injury, which his expected to rule him out for three weeks, potentially ruling him out for the Supercopa de España mini tournament in Saudi Arabia.
The details
Real Madrid confirmed today that Kylian Mbappé has suffered a sprain to his left knee, with medical tests revealing a lesion to the lateral ligament that will require treatment and rest.
The club’s statement did not give a precise timeframe, but French sports daily L’Équipe and sources close to the player say he is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks.
That absence rules him out of Real Madrid’s LALIGA clash with Real Betis on January 4th and the Spanish Super Cup semi-final vs Atlético Madrid on the 8th, including a potential final. He is also in doubt for the Champions League clash against Monaco later in the month.
The injury follows Mbappé’s stellar 2025 campaign, in which he has been in outstanding form for Real Madrid. He scored 59 league goals in the calendar year, tying Cristiano Ronaldo’s club record for most goals in a year. His 2024/25 season also saw him finish as La Liga top scorer with 31 goals, four more than Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski.
He is also the top-scoring footballer in 2025 across all football leagues with 66 goals, underscoring his potency in front of goal. Real Madrid are currently four points behind Barcelona on the log; given Mbappe’s talismanic form, they risk falling further behind before his return
