The dominant midfielder picked up from where he stopped last season, muscling through Celta Vigo to score in the 72nd minute to seal a 2-0 victory, and consequently, maximum points for Jose Bordalas's side.

Key match details

Getafe started with intent, getting the first few chances of the match. The pick of the bunch was a Mauro Arambarri effort that curled from the edge of the box and sailed just wide after he connected with a corner kick on the volley.

Celta soon played their way into the match with Iago Aspas, into his 14th season in LALIGA, testing David Soria's reflexes from a tight angle, prompting the goalkeeper to make a crucial stop.

Both teams traded chances in the pre-halftime period, with Oscar Mingueza's shot flying just over the bar and Christantus Uche's effort drifting wide of the post. However, the scoreline remained deadlocked at the break.

The stalemate was broken just two minutes into the second half, as Getafe's forwards combined beautifully to break the deadlock. Uche's clever pass found Adrian Liso, who finished neatly to give the visitors the lead.

Aspas continued to threaten Getafe's goal, unleashing two long-range strikes that forced Soria into impressive saves. Despite his best efforts, Celta's hopes of an equaliser were dashed when Getafe scored a second, courtesy of a clever move that left Ionut Radu exposed and allowed Uche to slot home.
