Arsenal are on the verge of securing a key signing, with the player reportedly in London for formalities.

Martin Zubimendi is currently in London to meet with Arsenal officials, aiming to finalise his transfer from Real Sociedad to the North London club, The Athletic reports.

Arsenal have been pursuing the Spain international for a considerable time, with their head coach Mikel Arteta keen on the move.

The deal, valued at €60 million, was revitalised during previous talks between the clubs regarding Mikel Merino's potential transfer to North London last summer.

Why Arsenal want Zubimendi

Real Madrid had also expressed admiration for the Real Sociedad star but opted not to pursue him this summer.

Arsenal, however, have considered the deal essentially complete, despite earlier speculation about a move to Xabi Alonso's side.

The signing of a midfielder like Zubimendi is crucial for the Gunners, especially following Jorginho's departure and uncertainty surrounding Thomas Partey's expiring contract.

Zubimendi, who scored two goals and provided two assists in 36 La Liga appearances last season, is known for his role as a deep-lying midfielder.

He excels at anchoring the midfield with intuitive defensive positioning and distributing the ball with expansive passes.

The Spaniard’s playing style demands immaculate technique, quick decision making and confidence when receiving the ball under pressure, making him a vital link between defence and midfield.

What’s next for Arsenal?

Arsenal, who face Manchester United in round one of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign, hope to finalise more extensions and incomings by the start of pre-season in July.
