Remo Stars officially lifted NPFL trophy on Sunday.

Remo Stars were officially crowned champions of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday, sending their home fans into rapturous celebrations after a commanding 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City.

Despite having already secured the title on Matchday 35, this Matchday 37 encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne held immense success as it marked their final home game of the season and the official trophy presentation.

The atmosphere was electric as the Sky Blue Stars delivered a dominant performance against their South West rivals in a highly anticipated derby to continue their home unbeaten run in two seasons.

Coming from behind, the newly crowned champions showcased their superiority, overpowering Ikorodu City and effectively ending their aspirations of securing a continental qualification spot.

The emphatic win solidified Remo Stars' position at the top of the league table with an impressive 71 points.

Remo Stars' NPFL triumph is a landmark achievement, etched in Nigerian football history as it marks the club's first-ever top-flight league championship and breaks a two-decade-long streak, becoming the first privately-owned team to lift the NPFL trophy in over 20 years.

The victory also signifies a historic moment for Ogun State, which had never before produced a national top-flight league champion since its establishment in 1976.

While Abiola Babes had previously won the old Challenge Cup now Federations Cup, no club from Ogun State had ever conquered the national league until now.

The Sky Blue Stars' remarkable season has also seen them come within touching distance of NPFL points records. Their current tally of 71 points is just two shy of matching the second-highest points total in league history, achieved by Dolphins in the 2010/11 season (73 points).

Only Rivers United's record-breaking 77-point title-winning campaign in the 2021/22 season stands ahead.
