Eric Chelle has reportedly received an improved bid from one of his suitors.

The Super Eagles risk losing their head coach, Eric Chelle, as the Angolan Football Federation is reportedly intent on landing him and has submitted an improved bid to secure his services.

The 48-year-old is in the final year of his Super Eagles contract, having signed for only two years when he was unveiled on January 7th, 2025.

Angola return for Chelle

Chelle announced himself to African football at AFCON 2023 with the brilliant football Mali played, which earned him the Super Eagles job.

With the talents at his disposal in the Nigerian national team, Chelle’s ultra-attacking style proved a dominant, destructive force during AFCON 2025, coaching the Super Eagles to a bronze medal as the top attacking side in the competition, while keeping clean sheets in key matches.

His performance with Nigeria and his contract situation placed many federations on high alert, and he was approached by Tunisia and Angola immediately after the tournament. While the Carthage Eagles have solved their coaching needs, Angola are still searching, and according to Sporty TV, they recently returned with a significantly improved bid.

Despite Ibrahim Gusau’s comments expressing confidence in the job Chelle has done so far, he has also admitted that they were not prepared to discuss a renewal until the Franco-Malian deal enters the final six months.

Chelle has also been linked with coaching Olympique Marseille in Ligue 1 and has recently changed his representation, a move football professionals make when they are preparing for a move. Coupled with his comments about aspiring to coach Real Madrid, Chelle’s ambition is evident, and failure to tie him to a longer-term deal soon could see the NFF lose a coach who has managed to inspire renewed confidence in the Super Eagles.
