The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has assured that national team head coach Eric Chelle will be paid his outstanding wages before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

This statement follows days of public concern after reports surfaced that the coach is owed three months' salary and several bonuses.

Concerns grew earlier this week when it became public that Chelle had not received his salary for several months.

While the coach himself has not lodged a formal complaint, the news raised questions about the NFF's financial management and its impact on the team's focus.

A senior official at the NFF clarified that the delay was due to financial processing and not a case of neglect.

According to a statement given to the Punch, the coach had previously received advance payments, and the currently owed salaries have already been approved. The final disbursement is now awaiting clearance from the treasury.

The NFF have been under pressure to resolve its financial commitments, especially following a chaotic 2024 marked by managerial turnover.

The brief tenures of Finidi George and interim coach Augustine Eguavoen preceded Chelle's appointment, highlighting a period of instability.

It was also revealed that the National Sports Commission had initially covered Chelle’s salary until October through a special presidential fund.

This temporary measure was designed to allow the NFF time to secure long-term sponsorship. With that arrangement now expired, the financial responsibility has returned to the federation.

Chelle has brought a sense of stability and optimism to the Super Eagles. The Malian coach remains unbeaten in competitive matches during regulation time, and his calm demeanour has been widely praised, even as administrative issues persist behind the scenes.
