The Nigeria Football Federation has dismissed reports claiming Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle demanded a $130,000 monthly salary and additional luxury benefits following AFCON 2025.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has firmly denied widespread reports alleging that Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle demanded a new contract worth $130,000 per month.

Speculation surrounding Chelle’s future intensified after Nigeria secured a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The performance reportedly attracted interest from French giants Olympique de Marseille, fueling conversations about a possible contract review.

According to circulating reports, the Malian tactician, who is believed to currently earn $50,000 per month, had tabled a list of extensive demands as part of negotiations for an improved deal.

The alleged conditions included not only a salary increase but also new contracts for his entire technical crew and personal assistant. Additional claims suggested he requested a private SUV with chauffeur and security, a secure residence with uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply, and a fully equipped office space with a projector and reliable internet access.

Further reports alleged that Chelle sought business class flights for himself and his wife, with economy class tickets for his two children. He was also said to be pushing for expanded authority over team operations, including the selection of friendly matches, organisation of training camps, and oversight of youth development programs.

Moreover, the coach was reportedly asking for permission to travel internationally to scout dual-nationality players and attend domestic league matches to identify talent for the senior national team as well as Nigeria’s U23, U20, and U17 squads.

What NFF said

However, according to the Leadership, NFF Director of Communications Dr Ademola Olajire, dismissed the reports outright.

“Sincerely, I am not aware,” Olajire stated, firmly denying any knowledge of such demands from the Super Eagles handler.

The NFF’s response appears to put an end, at least for now, to the swirling speculation about Chelle’s contract situation.
