A Napoli executive has provided fresh update on the Nigeria international's contract situation.

Napoli director Mauro Melusa provided an update on Victor Osimhen’s contract situation amid a negotiation standoff between the club and the Nigerian striker’s representatives.

The 24-year-old is one of the best players in his position, and last season, he led the Partenopei to their first league title in 33 years with his league-high 26 goals.

This has made him the subject of interest for a number of clubs, and the Naples-based organisation is seeking to extend his deal beyond the current 2025 deadline.

What Melusa said

Melusa revealed that the club is set to have a fresh round of talks with the player’s representatives to discuss his contract extension.

The director conceded that it was reasonable that the player was taking time to mull over the offer already presented to him, but it is believed that the club would like to get his answer as soon as possible.

“The president will meet with Victor’s agent to discuss that in the next weeks,” he said, per Fabrizio Romano.

“It’s also normal for Osimhen to take some time in order to think about the contract proposal we made.”

Meanwhile, Premier League giants Liverpool have reportedly stolen a march in the race for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen’s signature after agreeing a deal with the Napoli forward.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Osimhen after scouts were spotted watching the forward during the international break in a friendly against Saudi Arabia, and new reports suggest that the Merseyside club have already agreed a personal deal for the Nigerian.
