Manchester United 4-1 Bournemouth: Ruben Amorim hails rising star Ethan Williams, others after big win
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has showered praise on his squad following their commanding 4-1 victory against Bournemouth in the Premier League Summer Series.
Amorim highlighted the team’s improving intensity, physicality, and the impressive performances of young talents Patrick Dorgu and Ethan Williams.
In his post-match comments, Amorim expressed satisfaction with the team’s focus both in matches and training sessions.
“The intensity was there. The lads are really focused, bonding well, and we controlled key opposition players throughout the game,” he told the club website.
The Red Devils emonstrated improved possession control and pressing, a step forward from previous performances against West Ham and Leeds United.
Significantly, Amorim stressed the team’s progress in physicality, an area that troubled them last season.
“We are more competitive and better prepared now. Although we still have work to do, the way the team is playing feels very positive,” he noted.
The manager also praised striker Rasmus Hojlund for his all-around contribution beyond just scoring, highlighting his link-up play and ball retention. Hojlund’s influence was key in United’s attacking dominance.
However, Amorim’s biggest applause was reserved for the club’s youthful stars. He hailed 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu, the Danish-Nigerian left wing-back, describing him as a player who “looks more and more like he belongs in Manchester United.”
Dorgu scored his first goal for the club and assisted another in the match, impressing with his technique, pressing, and defensive work.
Equally celebrated was Ethan Williams, who netted the final goal for United. Amorim revealed his delight at Williams’ strike, saying, “I celebrated that goal because it’s rare for the kids to get so much space in training and matches. They work hard, press well, and fight for the team.”
Statistically, United controlled 56% possession, registered 13 shots with six on target, and created eight chances compared to Bournemouth’s 11 shots and three on target.
This solid performance puts the Red Devils on the cusp of lifting the Premier League Summer Series trophy, needing only a point against Everton in their next game.
Overall, Amorim’s comments tell us about a Manchester United side growing stronger, both physically and tactically, while nurturing exciting young prospects poised to make an impact in the forthcoming season.
