We believe in Amorim — Man United star assures success under Portuguese tactician
Manuel Ugarte's debut season at Manchester United and in the Premier League didn't go as planned, both individually and collectively. However, after initial difficulties adapting to English football, the Uruguayan midfielder believes this season will be better and praised the players' confidence in manager Ruben Amorim.
"Without a doubt. I know the opponents, I know my teammates [better]. All of that is important. Sometimes, connections take time to develop. I already know the league, the opponents, which is crucial. So, I'm very happy, but we have to keep going," he began, speaking to the club's channel, recalling the problems of the 2024/25 season.
"Last year, we made some changes. We changed managers, we changed our formation. We got to know the Premier League. This year I'm good, I'm very excited. It's important to perform well at Man United. You need to take responsibility when you play for United. I'm very happy, and we have to keep it up," he explained, stating that the atmosphere in the dressing room is different.
"We're very optimistic because we're all working together. We try to be humble day after day, game after game, and we'll see how this season goes. Without a doubt, we have to improve some things. We are all very motivated because we believe in the coach, we believe in what he wants, and that's very important," he added, praising the Portuguese manager, with whom he had previously worked at Sporting, and also the new signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Diego León.
"The three players who arrived are great people and great players. It's important that everyone is together in the dressing room, and we have to keep moving forward. We won [against West Ham], which was important, but we continue to work because we have a lot to improve. We have more games to play, but I think it's important to stay humble," he said, focusing on the upcoming friendly against Bournemouth.
"We have to work every day. We played well in midfield, controlled the ball, had possession, scored, and recovered well. We all have a good relationship; there's a lot of optimism in the team," he concluded.
