How it happened

The game began in cagey fashion as both sides found it difficult to exert themselves on proceedings. Ciy saw a lot of the ball but failed to find pockets of space in which to operate as Inter pressed high.

As the first half progressed Inter began to look like the more dangerous side, especially down the left with Dimarco who caused Manuel Akanji problems with his pace.

Guardiola's men finally created an opening as Kevin De Bruyne played Erling Haaland in, but the Norwegian saw his shot saved. De Bruyne had to come off with a hamstring problem and the panic that spread among the City fans was palpable but both sides held on till the break.

Second half action - Rodri winner

The second half started with more energy from Man City as they looked to take the game to Inter. Phil Foden in particular was snappy and aggressive in his play, finding pockets of space.

City finally broke the deadlock when Rodri guided a sweet strike into the corner on 68 minutes.

Simone Inzaghi’s men pushed late on but could not find a goal to force extra time with Ederson making a remarkable late save from Lukaku and City held on to lift their first European silverware since 1970.
