Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique showered his star midfielder with praise.

Luis Enrique has got aboard the recent Vitinha hype train, even drawing a comparison between the Portugal international and legendary Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets.

The 23-year-old was widely regarded as the best midfielder in the world last season, finishing in third place in the Ballon d'Or rankings. He has continued his excellent form this season.

Famed for his excellent passing and metronomic qualities, the former Wolves midfielder showed his shooting and goalscoring prowess on Wednesday, scoring a hat-trick against Tottenham in the Champions League.

What Enrique said

Vitinha’s performances against the Lilywhites prompted the Tottenham manager Thomas Frank to praise his level and tip him for the Ballon d'Or.

Ahead of this weekend's Ligue 1 clash against Monaco, Enrique sang the praises of Vitinha, who he said improved the way they play.

Vitinha lifting the Super Cup

"If you have to judge Vitinha's level, you have to look at last season; you have to look at his first season, how he changed the way we attack, and how he improved the way we manage games,” he said, per Goal

"It's very good for me, as a coach, to have a player of this ability. He loves playing football; he wants to train every day. These are the kinds of players you have to keep in check.

“It's true that we were able to manage the way Vitinha plays to change many things in the past about what we thought about this position. Because he is very different, for example, from Busquets who was world-class. Vitinha is world-class, without a doubt.

“But they are two different ways of playing. As a staff, I think we managed this well to have a top Vitinha and a very positive Vitinha for the team, and at the same time have the ability to play as a team."
