Manchester United pulled off an upset at Anfield, defeating Arne Slot's Liverpool 2-1 to condemn the Reds to their fourth straight loss in all competitions.

Manchester United secured their first away win over Liverpool since January 2016, to condemn the Reds to their fourth straight defeat in all competitions.

The odds were stacked against the Red Devils at Anfield. However, Ruben Amorim’s men got off to the best possible start, taking the lead after just 62 seconds.

Bruno Fernandes played the ball out to the right to Amad Diallo and the Ivorian slipped in Bryan Mbeumo, who slotted past Giorgi Mamardashvili

After a sluggish start, Liverpool began to grow into the contest, and the woodwork denied Cody Gakpo on 21 minutes.

Liverpool flew out of the traps following the restart and were once again denied by the woodwork after Salah’s floated ball to the far post found Gakpo, who could only hit the post.

The Reds spent £450m on transfers over the summer, and manager Arne Slot threw on Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike in search of a goal. However, it was Gakpo who finally equalised, finishing off a pass from Chiesa.

The Dutchman’s equaliser had Anfield erupting as the home crowd roared on their players to go and find the winner. Instead, United hit back in the 84th minute after Fernandes’ cross into the box was headed home by Harry Maguire.
