The first few minutes of the game were cagey and Arsenal had to contend with a William Saliba injury, forcing him off just five minutes into the contest.
However, Mikel Arteta's men produced the first genuine chance when Noni Madueke swung a boot at a loose ball, forcing Alisson Becker into a smart save.
It was a conservative first half, as both sides went in level at the break, but the second half saw Liverpool become more adventurous in the final third.
Eberechi Eze came off the bench to make his Arsenal debut alongside captain Martin Odegaard, but neither were able to make an impact before Dominik Szoboszlai bent a spectacular free-kick beyond Raya’s outstretched glove to seal all three points for Liverpool.
