Livepool star Luis Diaz's father to be released as Colombian government reveal kidnappers' identity

The Colombian government has provided an update on the kidnapping of Liverpool's Luis Diaz's father.

The Colombian government has revealed those behind the kidnapping of Luis Diaz’s father.

Diaz Sr has been held captive for five days now after he and his wife, who was later released were kidnapped last week as reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria.

According to a report from the Daily Star, the Liverpool forward has now received an update on the identity of those behind his father’s captivity. 

The Colombian government has revealed that Diaz Sr is being held by the National Liberation Army, ELN.

The ELN are said to be the largest leftist group in the country and called and were informed to ensure the safety of the Liverpool star’s father.

"As part of the development of the ceasefire agreement, our delegation will present this case to the Monitoring and Verification Mechanism in force, and will carry out all the necessary steps to ensure that the ELN is able to comply with the ceasefire agreement," the government said.

The report added that the group was unaware that they were responsible for the kidnap and had promised to release Diaz’s dad.

The ELN is estimated to have between 2,500 and 3,000 members, led by 67-year-old military commander Eliecer Herlinto Chamorro Acosta, better known as Antonio Garcia.
