Paul Scholes has suggested that Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim should study Mikel Arteta's work at Arsenal.
Despite the possibility of United winning the Europa League, Scholes stated he would prefer the Red Devils to be in the Gunners’ current position, highlighting Arteta's consistent progress.
The London club face a challenging end to their season, aiming to hold onto second place in the Premier League after their Champions League exit.
Meanwhile, United have struggled domestically, sitting in 15th place, but have the Europa League final against Tottenham to look forward to.
What Scholes said about Amorim and Arteta
Despite the chance of silverware for United, Scholes believes Arsenal's trajectory under Arteta, who has guided them to consecutive second-place finishes after inheriting a team that finished eighth, is a better model for Amorim to follow.
“I think Mikel Arteta has done an absolutely brilliant job at Arsenal since he first joined the club,” said the retired midfielder in his TNT Sports column.
“He could possibly finish second for the third year in a row and I think Ruben Amorim can take a lot from what Arteta has done over these last five to six years at Arsenal.
“Imagine if Amorim can get United up to second in the Premier League and into the semi-final of the Champions League in the next three or four years.
“I would swap United’s season this year for Arsenal’s campaign even if they go on and win the Europa League. All day long.”
While acknowledging Arsenal's lack of trophies since the FA Cup in Arteta's first season, Scholes further stated that the Gunners are close to winning major honours.
